The purpose of Monheimer Wohnen GmbH, a one hundred-percent subsidiary of the City of Monheim am Rhein, is to provide good quality affordable homes for all generations and groups of citizens in Monheim. The City Council laid the formal foundations for the establishment of the company, which was set up in February 2017.
Its activities center on the development of building land or unbuilt gaps between buildings in the inner city for innovative residential building. The company's declared purpose also includes upgrading and modernizing existing properties.
The first major step towards putting this aim into practice has already been taken: planning procedures for a good 470 homes are in progress, 30 percent of them as subsidized units. It started with the "Unter den Linden" development in the Berliner Viertel neighborhood, part of which has already commenced and is due for completion in August 2021, while the project in its entirety should be finished by the end of 2021. The project comprises 233 units. Concurrently, the "Europaallee" project in the suburb of Baumberg is under construction with three residential blocks, comprising 31 apartment units and a daycare center for children. This development is expected to be finished in the spring of 2022. Another project in Baumberg is the "Sophie Scholl Quarter," currently planned to provide 203 homes and a children's daycare center and due for implementation in 2023/2024. All three residential projects will have underground garage parking.
